MP DEMANDS ACTION ON JOBS FROM PRIME MINISTER
West Dunbartonshire MP Gemma Doyle has written to the Prime Minister, David Cameron, demanding a moratorium on Government job cuts in the area.
Following announcements that both Clydebank DWP Contact Centre and the Clydebank Driving Theory Test Centre are to close, the MP is calling on the Prime Minister to respond to the growing unemployment crisis in West Dunbartonshire.
Recent figures from the TUC show that West Dunbartonshire is the hardest place to find work in the country, with 40 jobseekers for every vacancy. Unemployment has risen by 14.5% in the last year, and this February saw the biggest increase for 7 years.
Gemma Doyle raised her concerns with the Prime Minister last November, and warned that the Conservative-led Coalition’s economic policy was likely to cost as many as 1700 in West Dunbartonshire.
Local MP Gemma Doyle said,
“At a time when this has become the hardest place in the country to find work, it is scandalous that the Government are pulling jobs out of the area. They should be helping, not making the problem worse. I have asked David Cameron to send a Government Minister to meet with a jobs taskforce to see the impact of the decisions they are making and to help bring more jobs here.”
