Gemma talks jobs to Scottish Secretary
Local MP Gemma Doyle highlighted the challenging jobs situation in West Dunbartonshire to the Scottish Secretary when he came to visit the area last week.
The Scottish Secretary, Michael Moore, paid an impromptu visit to Clydebank last week and met with representatives from West Dunbartonshire Council, JobCentrePlus as well as the local MP.
West Dunbartonshire is one of the most difficult places in the UK to find work, with 20 people chasing every job, and currently the highest unemployment rate in Scotland.
Following the Secretary’s visit, Gemma Doyle MP said: “I left the Secretary of State in no doubt about the damage the Governments cuts are doing to our area.
“He wanted to discuss employability programmes. Employability is important, but our unemployment figures aren’t going through the roof because all of a sudden we have an employability problem. We have a jobs problem, and the problem is the Government have cut jobs in this area and offer no solutions to create jobs.”
