GEMMA DOYLE MP NOMINATES DUMBARTON CASTLE AS ‘HIDDEN HISTORICAL GEM’
West Dunbartonshire MP Gemma Doyle’s nomination of Dumbarton Castle in a tourism campaign as one of the UK’s hidden historical gems has put the landmark on the map in a special newspaper feature in the Independent on Sunday.
As part of the GREAT Britain campaign being run by Visit Britain, MPs were asked to promote a tourist destination in their constituency for 2012.
A small number were picked out by the national paper including Gemma Doyle’s selection of Dumbarton Castle alongside other must-see destinations such as Blenheim Palace and Hadrian’s Wall in a special Independent on Sunday newspaper feature.
West Dunbartonshire MP Gemma Doyle said,
“Dumbarton Castle is one of the many great tourist attractions that we have here in West Dunbartonshire, along with the Titan crane in Clydebank, the Auchentoshan visitor centre and of course the banks of Loch Lomond.
“I was delighted to see it featured in the Independent on Sunday alongside other famous tourist destinations because it could and should be a bigger draw for visitors.
“Our tourism industry is a prime example of the opportunities on our doorstep that we could make much more of.
“I’m very happy to support Visit Britain’s GREAT Britain campaign, and with so much going on in 2012, I hope more visitors to the UK will take advantage of the fantastic tourist spots that we have here in West Dunbartonshire.”
