WEST DUNBARTONSHIRE RANKED HARDEST PLACE TO FIND A JOB
- 40 LOCAL DOLE CLAIMANTS CHASING EVERY VACANCY
- MP DEMANDS GOVT ACTION ON JOBS
Figures published today (16 May) have revealed that West Dunbartonshire is the hardest place to find a job in the UK with more than 40 dole claimants chasing every vacancy.
The figures, revealed in a TUC analysis of Jobseekers Allowance claimants and Jobcentre Plus vacancies, show that our area is way above the UK average of six claimants per vacancy.
According to local MP Gemma Doyle West Dunbartonshire is being hardest hit by Tory-led Government cuts.
West Dunbartonshire MP Gemma Doyle said, "This is shocking news. It confirms the Tory-led Government is cutting too hard and too fast and West Dunbartonshire is being hit hardest as a consequence. The latest blow will see 130 Jobcentre Plus jobs taken out of Clydebank.
"The figures demonstrate that the Tories' economic policy isn't working, but sadly neither is the SNP's.
“The SNP just haven't done enough to get people here back to work. And they are cutting council funding in West Dunbartonshire deeper than the rest of Scotland, which will lead to job losses and cuts to services like schools.
"We need action from government to grow the economy and Scotland urgently needs a plan to protect and create jobs here.
“Recently I ran a local consultation on boosting jobs in this area, I will now be taking forward these discussions to press for action.”
